Vodafone UK will reintroduce roaming tariffs in Europe from January 2022

Vodafone is the UK's second mobile phone company, the first was EE, to reintroduce roaming charges for users traveling to Europe from the UK.

After the UK leaves the EU, the mobile operator is no longer required to offer "roaming like in the UK". Therefore, the function will only be included with some Vodafone plans from 11 August, but which will be activated with roaming cost from 1 January 2022.

From January 2022, new customers and customers entitled to this upgrade will be charged £ 1.00 to £ 2.00 per day to use their mobile phone in EU destinations at various rates.

Initially, all operators said they would not reintroduce a roaming tariff after Brexit, despite having the option to do so.

Limits of proper use

The rules began to change from August 11, 2021, and will change for new and upgrading customers, although the rates will not apply until January 2022.

"Existing customers will not be affected by these changes as long as they stay with their current rate plan and roaming in the Republic of Ireland will still be included for all customers," said Vodafone UK.

This limit will also apply to data roaming, not just phone calls.

Roaming roaming rates

Since 2017, UK users have, within reasonable limits, the ability to use their mobile phone tariffs (calls, SMS and data) with the same freedom in the EU as in the UK.

But when the EU trade agreement was signed in December 2020, it opened the door to charges for users traveling to Europe.

While the deal encouraged operators to have "transparent and reasonable tariffs," it did not completely ban tariffs.

Telephone operator EE was the first to introduce roaming charges, with its daily charge of £ 2 for 47 European destinations, which will take effect from January 2022. However, EE customers will not be charged for any fees. use of their phones in the Republic of Ireland.

Currently, the O2 operator allows a roaming limit of 25GB, with any data used beyond that being charged at £ 3.50 per gigabyte.

Operator Three has reduced the fair usage data limit from 20GB per month to 12GB in Europe. It charges £ 3 per gigabyte above what is expected.
